When Kyrgyzstan became an independent country in 1991, most of the nation's talented artists fled to larger and more creative cities. But maker Gulnara Kydyrmyshova stayed behind and established a small retail store with the vision to revive Kyrgyz craftsmanship and help relieve her nation of poverty through the trade of handmade felted works. She started by conducting free sewing classes to unemployed women in her community. For over a decade, she has supported local artisans by selling felted handicrafts in her store.

Perfect baby gift

I bought these as a gift for a friend who is expecting her first baby and coming to visit San Diego. Figured it was on theme. The packaging is adorable and the booties are soft and high quality. My husband and I couldn't stop giggling over them when I took them out of the box to inspect them prior to me gift wrapping them. I've previously bought the dumpling booties from this same maker which also got rave reviews from the recipient. I wasn't able to see the product myself that time, but if the quality is the same as these taco boots, those were probably great too. The Taco Booties do not come in bigger sizes and are currently intended for children 6-12 months old. The dimensions are 4.5" L x 2.75" W, and the foot opening is approximately approx 3" L x 1" W, which children past 1 year typically exceed.
