Everyone loves it
Adults, children, family, friends. I do too, it's beautiful and never gets old to play with. The glass did crack on my last one when I was taking out air, but amazing customer service so I have a working one again! #sweepstakes

Glass cracked
Today the glass cracked when I removed the air (same as I had done successfully many previous times). Very unfortunate as I loved the piece.

It's ok
I should have paid more attention when I ordered. I thought it would have a stand. Also, I added the recommended amount of air but it doesn't to be enough air to use it horizontally.
Response from merchant

Smaller than expected
It's lovely but I should have read the measurements more carefully. It's smaller than I expected for the price.

She won't put it down!
I purchased this item for my wife for Christmas. Knowing her love of the ocean I was thinking she would enjoy this gift. After she opened this gift all other gift opening stopped. She turned the art over and over from portrait view to landscape and back again. She even read the instructions on how to remove the trapped air in the art until the sand moved and displayed as she thought it should. The art now prominently sits among her favorite things including her Gnomes and gets turned at least once daily. She loves this as much as I love her. 🏖

. The quality is excellent, beyond my expectations. It was a requested gift for my adult daughter, the quality surpassed her expectation too. It is beautiful, and relaxing to look at whether it is still or moving. We were both greatly pleased. My second daughter fell in love with it too when she saw it!!!

I would not buy this item again.
Received as a birthday gift and was very excited to set it up. Air is needed to be added for the sand to move, after adding the air I walked away for a few moments and all the glass shattered on the shelves.
Response from merchant
Thank you for sharing your experience, and I’m so sorry to hear about the issue with the item you received. I completely understand how frustrating it must have been. We haven’t seen any trends in defects or damages with the Ocean Sand Art. This item comes with an air scale that’s designed to help you adjust the air volume. Adding too much or too little air at once can sometimes cause the glass to break, and we recommend avoiding adding water without removing air first, as this can also cause the glass to crack. We’re reaching out to you directly to gather more details so we can offer additional support

Shattered
I was given this sand art as a present and loved using it. However, yesterday I went to remove the excess air the glass shattered. I have removed the excessive air per the instructions a number of times before this incident so I do not know what caused it to break.
Response from merchant
Thank you for posting. We're sorry to hear this happened to your sand art while in use. We've reached out to you via email to get this resolved for you.

Truly Amazing Customer Service
First, this is gorgeous and the friends I gifted it to last year loved it. Unfortunately, it shattered into a gazillion pieces when they went to refill it with water. I left a review indicating that and Customer Service reached out to me and made things right by replacing it. I truly didn't know service like this existed anymore or that there was a company left on the face of this earth that cared about their products and customers. Uncommon Goods is 5-star company with 5-star products and I will be back to purchase other gifts.

Beautiful piece of art
I bought this as a Christmas gift, and I can't wait to give it! I spent ages just turning the frame over and over, watching the sand fall in new patterns. It's kind of mesmerizing to watch, and I think the person I bought it for will be very happy with it. #sweepstakes
FAQs
1. What is moving sand art and how does it work?
Moving sand art is a framed piece where colored sand and water are sealed between two panes of glass, creating ever-changing landscape scenes with every turn. Moving sand art works by simply flipping or rotating the frame — the sand flows and settles into unique patterns that resemble beach dunes, ocean waves, or underwater scenes. Each turn produces a different image, making it both a functional piece of desk decor and a meditative experience to watch.
2. Is moving sand art a good gift for someone who loves the beach or ocean?
Moving sand art makes an excellent gift for someone who loves the beach or ocean. The flowing sand creates scenes that can be interpreted as underwater seascapes or coastal dunes, making it a meaningful and personal gift for ocean lovers, marine enthusiasts, or anyone who treasures beach memories. It's been a popular choice as a housewarming gift, a Christmas present, and a farewell gift — and recipients consistently find it beautiful and emotionally resonant.
3. Can moving sand art be used as office or desk decor?
Moving sand art works beautifully as office or desk decor. It's compact enough to sit on a desk or shelf and is especially popular for home offices, where people find it easy to glance at during calls, virtual meetings, or work breaks. The calming motion of the flowing sand is widely noted as a stress-relieving and meditative experience, making it a practical and attractive addition to any workspace.
4. Is moving sand art durable and well-made?
Moving sand art is considered a well-crafted, high-quality product with noticeably better construction than similar items found elsewhere. The materials are described as sound and sturdy, and the craftsmanship is frequently called out as superior to alternatives available on other platforms. In the rare event of any issue, the brand's customer service has a strong reputation for resolving problems quickly and thoroughly.
5. Can moving sand art be displayed both vertically and horizontally?
Moving sand art can be displayed in both portrait (vertical) and landscape (horizontal) orientations. Switching between the two changes how the sand flows and settles, producing different scene compositions each time. This versatility is part of what makes it such an engaging piece — simply changing its position offers a refreshing new image without any additional effort.

How often do you have to add or subtract air from the picture? Also, how precise do you have to be? Is the needle included?
Verified reply from Michael
Not often. An Injector and Air Scale are included. included. The amount of air in your sand picture determines how fast or slow the sand escapes through the air barrier. The more air — the bigger the barrier. This will result in a slower release of the sand. The less air — the smaller the barrier. This will allow the sand to escape more quickly.

After prolonged use does the sand mix and become one color mixture instead of the separated colors you see pictured?
Verified reply from Amy
Hi there! There are between 4-7 different densities in this artist's different Sand Art options; most have 5– 6. With different minerals having different weights, the sands don’t mix!

Is the large one permanently attached to the stand?
Verified reply from Leslie
Per the artist, they drill two holes into the side of the frame and attach the side bars. It would be easy for anyone to remove the Window sand art from the side bars and easily reattach.
