Nice to see it, hard to hear it
The recipient said that it's beautifully made, and the sound is nice, but you have to stand right next to it to hear it. Consequently, it does not function as intended, but is a nice conversation piece.

My go-to gift
I urge recipients to attach it to either the front or back door to their home. Failing that, it's beautiful just as a wall accent - you just don't get the music!
FAQs
1. What does a door harp sound like when someone opens the door?
A door harp produces a lovely chime-like sound when someone opens the door — the motion causes small striker balls to swing and gently tap the harp strings, creating a pleasant musical tone. Owners describe the sound as a soft, melodic chime that brings a smile every time they hear it, and guests often linger to make music themselves before walking out.
2. Is a door harp a good housewarming or engagement gift?
A door harp makes an outstanding housewarming or engagement gift — it's a beautifully handcrafted, one-of-a-kind piece that combines visual appeal with functional charm. Many buyers have made it their go-to gift for loved ones, and gift recipients consistently describe it as a cool, creative, and memorable present that brings lasting beauty and music to a home.
3. Can a door harp be tuned, and does it come with a tuning tool?
Yes, a door harp can be tuned to your preference, and it comes included with a tuning tool so you can adjust the sound right out of the box. The ability to custom-tune the harp allows you to dial in just the right tone, making it both a functional and personalized addition to your home.
4. Where is the best place to hang a door harp in your home?
The best place to hang a door harp is on a frequently used entryway door — such as your front door, back door, or even an interior garage door — so the natural movement of opening and closing triggers its chime. If you prefer a quieter space, it also works beautifully as a wall accent on an armoire or cabinet door, though you'll miss out on the music if it's not on an active door.
5. Is the door harp well-made and durable enough to last for years?
The door harp is exceptionally well-made and built to last — owners report enjoying theirs for five years or more with no loss of beauty or sound quality. The natural wood construction is crafted with outstanding attention to detail, and the maker even offers repair services if a component ever needs attention, giving buyers long-term confidence in the quality of their purchase.

This is a really neat idea, and I'm really excited to get one. However, the tones in the video are quite dissonant and jarring. Other reviews say that you can tune the notes, but how much up/down can they actually be tuned? Is it possible to tune into a nice chord?
Verified reply from Allison
Yes! You can tune it to your liking! A tuning wrench is included.

Is this multi note or two notes?
Verified reply from Leslie
The Door Harp emits a trio of tranquil notes when the mallets hit the wire. You can customize your tune by adjusting each strand with the included tuning wrench.

If I hang the harp on the back of the door, where does the metal piece go? and how does it chime when it's on the door?
Verified reply from Michelle
The metal piece that comes with the Door Harp is a tuner. It is used to manipulate the sound to your liking when the mallets hit the strings. When someone enters or leaves through the door, the motion will cause the mallets to swing and hit the the strings- releasing a delicate chime.

I would like to know how this is hung. My entry door has a glass panel. Thank you
Verified reply from Valerie
The second small image beneath the large image shows the back of the door harp. It will hook onto a hook or nail. You could try a super strong suction cup hook or check with your local hardware store for other hanging solutions.

how is the sound quality? can you send a sample of the sound?
Verified reply from Marisa
Thanks for your question. We wish we had a sound sample, but we don't. It's a delicate chime of the wooden ball pinging on the metal string. The strings can be tuned to change the notes.
Reply from Dveg
There's now a YouTube link (below the picture), which I found very helpful to hear the chime

Can this be used outside?
Verified reply from Marisa
Thanks for your question. Bob Murphy's gorgeously crafted and beautifully finished door harps should not be exposed to the elements. They should be hung indoors to protect their beauty.

I would like to hang this on the inside of my new apt.front door. The door is metal so would I b able to hang it?
Verified reply from Marisa
Sure! You could glue a hook on the door, or use an over-the-door hook, or, perhaps the best solution, super heavy duty strong magnet hook. We suggest asking at your local hardware store -- the kind where at least one person there knows something about hardware! Thanks for shopping with UncommonGoods.
