I wanted to have a job that was physically demanding and creative. At that time, I thought to myself \u2013 maybe I should become a potter?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.uncommongoods.pro\/artist?artistId=29380&amp;source=blog_tji_AlisonEvans\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-43844 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.uncommongoods.pro\/blog\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Alison-Evans-drying-molds-620.jpg\" alt=\"Alison Evans | UncommonGoods\" width=\"620\" height=\"366\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>What was the most exciting thing about becoming a professional artist?<\/strong><br \/>\nI\u2019ve always been very goal-oriented, so to make a living doing what I love and being able to check that off of my list in my 20s was a big accomplishment.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.uncommongoods.pro\/artist?artistId=29380&amp;source=blog_tji_AlisonEvans\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-43838 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.uncommongoods.pro\/blog\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Alison-Evans-at-work-UncommonGoods.jpg\" alt=\"Alison Evans | UncommonGoods\" width=\"620\" height=\"608\" \/><\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>What does your typical day in the studio look like?<\/strong><br \/>\nCheck the kilns to make sure they fired properly, roll out slabs of clay, talk to my incredible team about what is most pressing to work on, answer phone calls from customers, greet and speak with customers that come into our store\/studio, answer emails while I eat lunch, load a kiln, sand down dry pots to get them ready for their first firing\u2026.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Is there a trinket, talisman, or other inspirational object you keep near? If so, what is it?<\/strong><br \/>\nYes, in <a title=\"Yarmouth, MA | Wikipedia\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Yarmouth,_Massachusetts\" target=\"_blank\">Yarmouth<\/a> we have a sculpture that my husband made that we keep in the kiln room for good luck, and a headless Santa as our kiln god. In <a title=\"Boothbay, Maine | Wikipedia\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Boothbay,_Maine\" target=\"_blank\">Boothbay<\/a>, we have a horseshoe that hangs above the kiln room door to bring us <a title=\"Horseshoe superstition | Psychic Library\" href=\"http:\/\/psychiclibrary.com\/beyondBooks\/horseshoe-superstition\/\" target=\"_blank\">good luck<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.uncommongoods.pro\/artist?artistId=29380&amp;source=blog_tji_AlisonEvans\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-43842 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.uncommongoods.pro\/blog\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Individual-shell-mold-Alison-Evans-620.jpg\" alt=\"Alison Evans | UncommonGoods\" width=\"620\" height=\"765\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>Imagine you just showed your work to a kindergartner for the first time. What do you think they would say?<\/strong><br \/>\nI actually have a little guest book that my customers can sign to hear about new pieces and other news from my ceramics company. A little girl once wrote to us saying \u201cI like how it look not normal but in a good way.\u201d She was probably older than a kindergartner if she could write. I absolutely love that message.
