As you may know, we\u2019re a founding B Corporation \u2013 a movement that designates companies who are using the power of business to solve social and environmental problems.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-41792\" src=\"https:\/\/www.uncommongoods.pro\/blog\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/portland.jpg\" alt=\"Portland\" width=\"620\" height=\"620\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Enjoying the sights in Portland, Oregon, Photos by Sean Cullen<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Every year, <a title=\"B Lab\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bcorporation.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">B Lab<\/a> hosts the Champions Retreat, where<a title=\"B Corps\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bcorporation.net\/what-are-b-corps\/why-b-corps-matter\" target=\"_blank\"> B Corps<\/a> from around the globe converge to celebrate the success of the businesses and growth of the movement. This year I had the honor of attending the retreat in Portland, Oregon, with HR Project Coordinator Sean Cullen, where over 300 B Corps gathered to exchange best practices, attend <a title=\"What is an un-conference session?\" href=\"http:\/\/www.unconference.net\/unconferencing-how-to-prepare-to-attend-an-unconference\/\" target=\"_blank\">un-conference sessions<\/a>, and brainstorm ways to further promote business as a force for good.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s retreat theme was \u201cBuilding Bridges.\u201d This theme was meant to inspire reflection on ways to expand the B Corp movement. There was talk of building bridges between individuals and businesses within the B Corp community could build to make B Corp a better ally for issues like diversity, small businesses, and the potential B Corps of tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-41795\" src=\"https:\/\/www.uncommongoods.pro\/blog\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/postit.jpg\" alt=\"Un-Conference\" width=\"620\" height=\"620\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Sean and I write down the bridges we\u2019d like to build in the B Corp community.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>To better illustrate this, the end of the retreat was rounded out by the\u00a0TED-inspired <em>B Inspired<\/em> Talks. The talks featured inspiring individuals who paved the way for using a force for good, such as Perry Chen of Kickstarter, David Griswold of Sustainable Harvest, and Maya Rockeymoore of Global Policy Solutions. You can watch the full set of <a title=\"B Corp\" href=\"http:\/\/binspiredevent.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">B Inspired Talks over at the B Lab<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"920\" height=\"518\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fi0P6KUlFMw\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The conference ended with a festival celebrating business as a force for good in <a title=\"Pioneer Courthouse Square\" href=\"http:\/\/thesquarepdx.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pioneer Courthouse Square<\/a>. B Corp vendors such as New Belgium Brewing, Ben &amp; Jerry\u2019s, and Tony&#8217;s Chocolonely handed out samples while a DJ played music for the crowd.
