One of the best things about being a buyer for UncommonGoods is shopping at trade shows. This past week, we were at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, located on the west side of NYC, to check out some of the newest things on the market.<\/p>\n

ICFF<\/strong>
\nThe first show we went to was the 22nd Annual International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF). It showcases the latest in innovative and high design for home d\u00e9cor.\u00a0 Grace Bonney over at Design Sponge<\/a> does a great job of defining some of the current trends we saw there.<\/p>\n

And here are some of the people behind UncommonGoods that we got to catch up with at the show –<\/p>\n

They had a spectacular booth with wall sand art pieces, similar to the desktop sand art<\/a> but in gigantic, custom-made sizes.<\/p>\n

We were pretty excited when they showed us something new that is a little more accessible than covering an entire wall with sand art\u2014desktop sand art that tilts.<\/p>\n

What is new and cool about it is that this allows you to recreate the sand art at different \u201cspeeds.” You can expect to find this in our assortment in July.<\/p>\n

This is\u00a0 Jamie Harris<\/a> with his newest metallic glass creations.<\/p>\n

He is an artist and designer of spectacular glass objects<\/a>. His infusion sculptures<\/a> were featured on our catalog cover in 2006.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

And here is Brett from Mod Kat, who told us that Mod Kat Litter Boxes<\/a> just<\/a> won a 2010 Red Dot Design Award<\/a>. Congrats Brett!<\/p>\n

The Stationery Show<\/strong>
\nMoving on to the 64th<\/sup> Annual National Stationery Show, which is \u201cthe only tradeshow in the United States that focuses specifically on social stationery and related lifestyle products.\u201d<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, we didn\u2019t get a chance to see Jason Thompson <\/a>, who we do a lot of\u00a0 product collaborations with, such as the grandparent\u2019s journal <\/a> and A Year In My Life<\/a> but here are Leah and Illira from Rag & Bone.<\/p>\n

At the Stationery Show, she showed us this two toned chalk, made by the oldest chalk factory in Germany. Very cool!<\/p>\n

And, of course, we always try to have a little fun at the show –\u00a0 here is Josh, our home d\u00e9cor and desktop buyer reviewing a new title \u201c Lincoln in 3D\u201d with Lisa from Chronicle Books.<\/p>\n
